Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to The Reaction!
Chemistry can be fun and fascinating - we’re going to try to give you the best of both.
This is a website for anyone interested in science in the real world. We’re probably not going to be talking about Higgs bosons or fossils (much). We understand you want to know about how science affects your health, your environment and your life. This science is chemistry.
We’ll be posting news stories about great research you actually want to know about - new real advances in medicine, faster, more efficient cars, and iPods that could store all the music in the world. We’ll be looking at science in the media, and giving you the insider knowledge on the science behind the news. Does that health supplement you saw in the newspaper really work? Is that power station as dangerous as they make out on TV? You’ll find out here, directly from the experts, speaking your language.
We’ll also be posting exciting videos, photos and stories from the RSC’s brand new Chemistry Centre, a beautiful location in the heart of London where everyone can enjoy chemistry.

The RSC regularly hosts fantastic public events at the Chemistry Centre, where eminent scientists describe their cutting-edge research into better health, sustainable energy, new technology and amazing science. Other events see high-intensity debates about the future of science – our recent debate on genetically modified food saw the Director of the Soil Association shouting across the hall.
Sometimes we’ll show video clips, slideshows, photos and transcripts of talks and debates. Sometimes we’ll even live-stream the lecture, so you can watch from home! And for every one you can join in the debate in real-time through Twitter.
The RSC is a charity, and it’s our charitable duty to tell as many people as possible how wonderful chemistry is for your health, wealth and lifestyle. Fed up with physics? Bored with biology? Come and enjoy the science of real life: chemistry.
