A thought-provoking, insightful art exhibition showing how the world's children feel about water opens at the Royal Society of Chemistry in London on 18 July 2011.

Schoolchildren from Europe and Africa were asked to express their feelings when thinking about water. The results from the different continents are striking and fascinating.

Curated by Barry Phipps, curator for Kettle's Yard museum and art gallery and Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge, the exhibition will run for two weeks at the RSC's headquarters in Burlington House - the building they've shared with the world-renowned Royal Academy of Arts for the past 150 years.

This exhibition forms part of a global celebration of the International Year of Chemistry, as the chemical sciences play a vital role providing safe, clean drinking water across the world.

European tour

After the exhibition in Burlington House has finished, the artwork will continue on tour to other European locations in exhibitions organised by each country's national chemical societies. The dates of the tour are:

- Frankfurt, Germany (15th-26th August)

- Prague, Czech Republic (12th-23rd September)

- Rome, Italy (10th-21st October)

- Barcelona, Spain (14th-18th November)
